= We go way back. (informal)

＊way = very, so

＊old にはこれ以外の数多くの意味がありますのでご注意下さい。

He's just an old boyfriend.

　彼は只の昔の恋人よ。

　彼は只の昔からの恋人よ。

＊former だと現在は boyfriend ではない事を明示しますが、old  では昔の一時期だったのか、昔からの知り合いで今もそうである（付き合いの長い）のか明示しません。誤解を招きそうな表現です。

＊この様な子供が使用する基本的な単語や句動詞 phrasal verbは多義性をしばしば持ちますので、それに替えて出来るだけ明確な意味を指し示す言葉を利用することが肝要です。巷の英会話教室や web 動画の英会話レッスンの多くは、ぞんざい且つ非 nativeには意味の取れない句動詞表現などを小出しに切り売りする以上に無く、formal かinformal かの区別も明示しません。実は塾長が通っていた都立進学高校の英語の授業でもこれに関して特に説明を受けたこともありませんでした。北米で毎日３億人が利用している会話語を身に付ける事も実際役に立ちますが、同時に、明確な意思表現を果たし得る英語を習得するように常に留意して学習を続けて下さい。

＊名詞を of で繋いで羅列する悪文の類いです。長い文章の場合は名詞を前置詞−これはしばしば多義性を持つ−でつなぎあわせることになりがちで、意味が却って曖昧になってしまいます。そのまま和訳しても我々日本人には意味が取れません。日本語の文章でも助詞の＜の＞をつなぎ合わせた文章は意味が不明となりますね。

＊ Ａの予想はＢを含む →ＡはＢを含むと予想される

　　と、名詞を動詞化し、それに併せ名詞を修飾する形容詞を副詞化すると理解し易くなります（品詞転換＋配置換えの術）。
