＊これらの語は見ての通りで　いずれも like の兄弟語ですが、使い分けがご不明の方も居られるでしょう。じっくり解説していきましょうか。

＊皆さんご存じの様に、like は動詞として、〜が好きだ、の意味が有りますが、同時に前置詞、接続詞、形容詞、副詞として、〜の様だ、の意味も持ちます。こちらの用法については使用に不安を覚える方もそこそこ居られるのではと思います。これら様態の意味用法をメインに、 まずは like について一通り解説して行きますので、like 遣いの達人になって下さい！本当に便利に使える言葉ですよ。

前置詞としての like

＊＜前置詞としての like＞ は、様態の意味しか有りませんが、細かくは３通りに分類できます。

＊一方、＜前置詞としての as＞  に基本的に様態の意味はほぼ無く、〜（の役割）として、in the role of の意味になります。

＊前置詞ですので後ろに名詞または名詞相当語が来ます。文章は取りません。

1. like

＊〜に似ている、〜の様だ

(SIMILAR TO)

= similar to; in the same way or manner as:

＊like は「〜に似ている」という意味です。look、sound、feel、taste、seem など、感覚を表す動詞と一緒に使うことが多いですね。

＊like を「〜に似ている」という意味で使う場合、その前にa  bit, just, very,  so, moreなどの単語やフレーズを入れ、類似の度合いを表現することができます。

My sister is like my mother. (My sister and  my  mother  aresimilar)

　私の妹は私の母に似ています。(私の妹と母は似ている)

She looks just like her father.

　彼女は父親にそっくりだ。

She's very much like her mother (= she is  similar  in  appearance  or character).

　彼女は母親にとても似ている（＝外見や性格が似ている）。

I think this tastes like coconut.

　これ、ココナッツの味がすると思うんだけど。

That looks like Marco’s car.

　マルコの車のようだ。

That smells very like garlic.

　それはとてもニンニクのようなにおいがする。

He seems like a nice man.

　彼はいい人そうだ。

It feels/seems like (= it seems to me) ages  since  we  last  spoke.

　私たちが最後に話してから、ずいぶん時間が経ったように感じる。

It’s a bit like skiing but there’s no snow.

　彼女の髪はとても柔らかくて、まるでシルクのようだった。 (so...that の後ろの that が省略される)

You're acting like a complete idiot!

　君は完全にバカみたいな振る舞いをしているよ。

She sings like an angel!

　彼女は天使のような歌声だ！

It does not have to be like this.

cf.  enough...not  to  そこそこ〜なので、〜しない　（to 不定詞を結果の不定詞として訳すと良い）

He was wise enough not to do such a thing.

　彼は馬鹿じゃなかったのでそんなことはしなかった。（そんな馬鹿なことはしない程度の賢さは持って居た、が源義）

＊頻用される表現です。

＊この文のlike が前置詞であれば後ろの rain は名詞と言う事になりますね。

＊まぁ、空模様を見て、これから雨になりそうだと感じている訳です。

＊現に雨が降っている時にはこの表現は使いません。単に It'sraining now. とでも言います。

2. like

＊典型的な、または特徴的な、期待されるように、〜らしい、期待通りに

typical or characteristic of: to be  expected  of:

＊頭の中に思い描かれているものと似ている、との意味ですね。

It’s not like you to be so quiet ? are you  all  right?

そんなに静かなのはあなたらしくないですね？ 大丈夫ですか？

That's just like Maisie to turn up half an hour  late  to  herown party!

　自分のパーティに30分も遅れてくるなんて、メイジーらしいわ！（to不定詞は理由を表す副詞用法と考える）
