　時間を表す表現について扱います。時間に関する多様な表現がすぐに脳裏に思い浮かぶまでになると、英語の表現の幅が格段に豊かになると思います。時間の流れの中で生きている我々には、時間に関する様々な表現は寧ろ身に付けるべき必須の表現であるとも言える筈です。現在、過去、未来、期間、特定の時まで、特定の時、time  を使った表現などに分け、解説して行きましょう。過去に纏わる表現の第２０回目です。

once upon a time

idiom

① used at the beginning of children's stories to mean " a  long  time  ago":

　ずっと昔、の意味で童話の最初に使われる、昔々


Once upon a time there was an ugly duckling.

　昔々、一羽のみにくいアヒルの子がいました。


② used when referring to something that  happened  in  the  past,  especially  when  showing that you feel sorry that it no longer happens:

　過去に起きたこと、特にそれが最早起きないことを残念に思うことを言う時に。


Once upon a time people knew the difference between rightand wrong, but nowadays nobody seems to care.

　昔は人は善悪の違いを知っていたものだが、昨今は誰も気に掛けもしない。

one-time

① used for describing what someone or  something  was  in  the  past:

以前の、嘗ての


The one-time PM refused to comment on the  new  policy.

Once the page was picked up by search  engines,  the  number  of  new  and one-time visitors increased significantly.

　一旦検索エンジンでそのページが採り上げられると、新規並びに嘗てからの訪問者数が大幅に増加した。


a one-time teacher, doctor, cleaner, etc.

= someone who was a teacher, doctor, cleaner, etc. in thepast:

　過去に教師、医者、掃除人、その他だっ者

Duggan, a TV personality and one-time  journalist, made  the  announcement  last week.

　ＴＶパーソナリティで嘗てのジャーナリスト、ダガンは、先週声明を発表した。

② happening only once:

一度だけ起こる、その都度の、１回毎の


The gym charges a separate, one-time fee  to  join.

　そのジムは毎回ごとの一度の料金を支払って利用する。

　その様な高度な適用範囲の２回ワクチン投与プログラムを補う一度だけのキャンペーンの経済価値は、従来のワクチンの適用範囲に拠っている。


→その様な対象者の広い２回ワクチン投与プログラムを普及させようとキャンペーンを行っても、その毎回の経済的価値は、従来のワクチンの対象範囲に左右される。（従来のワクチン接種者の範囲が広ければ２回投与タイプのワクチン接種者も増えるだろうし、その逆も然り）

Paleo diet の名の元に、科学的根拠の無い食事法が一部で流行していますが、科学的根拠

に基づいた食事を摂ることが何よりも大切ですね。そもそも何をもってしてpaleo の名を使うのか

明確ではありません。早口且つ不鮮明な発音で聴き取りの練習には向かない動画です。なぜ早

口で喋るのか意味不明です。文と文との間を置きませんがアナウンスの訓練を受けていない素

人でしょう。相手がこの様にまくし立てたら皆さんはどうやってストップを掛けますか？

Sorry, I don't catch you. Speak more slowly, please.とでも言いますか？

・ relating to or typical of how humans lived  in  ancient  times,  when  they  used  tools and weapons made of stone:

石で出来た道具や武器を使っていた時の古代に人がどの様に生活していたのかに関係する、或いはそれに典型的な、古、旧、原始の


She follows a paleo diet high in fruit, nuts,  and  lean meat,  with  no  grains  and no processed food.

　彼女は果実、堅果、赤身肉が豊富で穀物と加工品の無い古代ダイエット法に従っている。

　古生物は地球上の化石と生命の進化の研究です。


Their field of expertise is palaeontology  and  proving t he  existence  of  prehistoric  creatures.

　彼らの専門分野は古生物学で有史以前の生き物の存在を証明している。


Amateurs have traditionally played an  important  role  in  palaeontology.

　アマチュアは古生物学には伝統的に重要な役目を果たして来ている。


Palaeontology works by comparing past  and  present  organisms  with  each  other.

　古生物学は過去と現在の器官を互いに比較することで回る。
