presently

adverb (SOON)

old-fashioned　古風な表現

soon; not at the present time but in  the  future,  after  a  short time:

　これからすぐに　

The room was hot and presently her  eyes  grew  heavy  and she began to feel sleepy.

　その部屋は暑く、すぐに瞼が重くなり彼女は眠気を覚え始めた。

We will be leaving presently.

　我々はすぐに出発します。

= We will be leaving soon.

＊通常、presently は、今この時点で、現時点での意味で利用します。

＊これの after/ before は、前置詞としても接続詞としても利用されます。

She became ill shortly after inhaling  the fumes.

＊過去にも未来にも使えることにご注意下さい。

I was working in the city then.

　私は当時その街で働いていた。

I'll be working in the city then.

　私はその時にはその街で働いているでしょう。

formal

I wanted to live in the city, but my then  husband  (=  the  man who was my husband at that time) preferred the country.

　私は都市に住みたかったけど、当時の夫が田舎の方を好んだのよ。

Give it to me next week - I won't have  time  to  read  it  before/ until  then.
