形容詞としての  alike

= similar  to  each  other:　like  each  other:  the  same

＊主語として提示された複数のものが＜互いによく似ている、同じだ＞を意味します。

＊主語同士が互いに似ていることを表す語であり、主語が他のものに似ている、との表現は成立しません。

They are not sisters but their clothes are  alike,  aren’t  they?

　２人は姉妹じゃないけど、服は似てるよね。

All the shops are alike, and it’s hard to find  something  different.

　どこの店も似たり寄ったりで、違うものを見つけるのは難しい。

Great minds think alike.

　偉人は皆同じように考えるものである。

→　僕らの考えって似てるじゃん。（この意味で口語で頻用されます）

The film's message is that rich and poor  are  alike.

　この映画のメッセージは、金持ちも貧乏人も似ているということだ。

As babies, the twins were so alike that I  just  couldn't  tell  them apart.

＊この組み合わせで頻用されます。

The children all look very alike.

　子供たちはみんなよく似ている。

You and your father don’t look very  much  alike.

　あなたとお父さんはあまり似ていない。

The twins look alike, but they differ in  temperament.

　その双子は外見は似ていますが、気質が違います。

副詞としての alike

in  a  similar  way,  equally;  both: 〜とよく似た遣り方で、等しく、共に〜だ

＊動詞の後に添えて配置することも出来ますが、通常は名詞の後ろに直付けし、その物事が等しく行われる、等しい状態であることを示します。

＊ちょっと変わった用法ですね。しかし修飾するのは文章の動詞になります。配置が名詞のすぐ後ろに来るだけの話です。

＊比較級は取れません。

The twins even dress alike.

双子は同じ服を着ている。

= The twins even dress in a similar way.

My father treated us all alike.

父は私たちみんなを同じように扱ってくれたわ。

= My father treated us all equally.

It's quite common to see couples who dress  alike.

　似たような服装のカップルをよく見かける。

= It's quite common to see couples who dress  in  a  similar  way.

＊名詞用法で、そっくりさん、類似品、の意味になります。

＊便利な言葉です。

In this area we are up against  unauthorised  copying  and  using by users, illicit copying by distributors and the production of look-alikes.

　この分野では、ユーザーによる無許可のコピーや使用、流通業者による不正コピー、そしてそっくりさんの製造が問題となっている。

There is no doubt that there is a real  problem  of  look-alikes.
